The deconstruction of my faith has taken years Once I think that I am done asking questions, a dozen more come up. In some ways, I want to be able to re-construct the faith that I once had. If I am being honest with myself, I don’t see that happening for several reasons. The first one being, that the Christian Bible no longer makes sense without the “Lens” of a biblical worldview. Here are a couple particularly off-putting stories.
God having Abraham and Sarah sacrifice their child as a test to see how much faith they had ~ Genesis 22:1-19
God sending a bear to murder kids because they were making fun of Elisha’s baldness ~ 2 Kings 22:23-24
Lot offering his daughters to be rapped ~ Genesis 19:1-11
Lots daughters getting their Dad drunk then raping them ~ Genesis 19:30-36
Adam and Eves kids, extending the bloodline through incest ~ Genesis 5
And a bonus…

I acknowledge that these are all stories in the Old Testament. I think that the majority of Christians would argue that we ‘need’ to at least be familiar with this part of the bible because it points to the New Testament (aka Jesus). I don’t need a religious bias to be able to identify that these stories are abusive and fucked up on several levels.
